The Niko Berdzenishvili Institute is the legal successor of the Niko Berdzenishvili Scientific Research Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia, established in 1958, which has been under the jurisdiction of Shota Rustaveli State University of Batumi since 2011. It is an independent structural unit of this university.

Currently, the institute has at its disposal a rich scientific and cultural heritage created for more than half a century in such fields of science as: ethnography (ethnology), archeology, history, folklore, emigrant literature research and dialectology, orality, sociology. These fields were and are studied today, throughout South-West Georgia.

In order to process foundation material, an application is required in the name of the Rector of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University. Working in foundations is free.

Digitization-processing-cataloging of the music archive of Niko Berdzenishvili Institute of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University was carried out in 2022.
