The staff of the Institute of History and Ethnology—ethnographers, musicologists, historians, and archaeologists—have systematically organized complex scientific expeditions to various regions of Georgia and Northern Caucasus since the 1930s. As a result, the institute has gathered a rich collection of textual, graphic, photographic, and audio materials, which, due to their diversity and antiquity, hold unique significance in the study and preservation of Georgia's history, ethnography, and cultural heritage.
Access to the materials is available at the institute: individuals may access them based on a personal request, while legal entities may request them through the institution, free of charge.
The digital version of the materials is temporarily restricted, as legal procedures are underway to transition to a paid service model and establish tariffs.
The musical archive of the Institute of History and Ethnology was digitized in 2022 in collaboration with the Anzor Erkomaishvili State Folklore Center. The cataloging process of the audio phonodocuments involved employees of the Folklore Center, Sandro Natadze and Teona Rukhadze. Accordingly, copies of the musical archive can also be accessed at the Folklore State Center's archive.
